The Ontario Provincial Police advise that October is Cyber Safety Month.
It is a month aimed at increasing your ability to identify, react and respond to online threats by taking small and easy steps.
South Bruce OPP Constable Kevin Martin speaks to children when it comes to going online.
“If you have youth online it is critical you talk about the safety piece. They have a lot of technical skills but don’t have the feature of pushing buttons to see what they do. We do, as we don’t want to break the darn thing.
The tips for everyone include:
- making sure you have anti-virus software and its updated
- confirm any contact your receive from people or organizations to make sure it is actually them
- don’t fall victim to scams that pretend to be immediate emergencies
- always contact Police if you feel you are about to or have fallen victim to a scam
