Premier Doug Ford held a press conference Thursday afternoon at a caucus retreat in Niagara Falls.
At the event Ford announced that the government would be reversing their decision to open up the Greenbelt to developers.
Ford had this to say for the reasons behind their decision.
“It was a mistake to open the greenbelt. It was a mistake to establish a process that moved too fast. This process left too much room for some people to benefit over others. It caused people to question our motives.”
Last month, Ontario’s Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk released a report on the government’s handling of the greenbelt land selection process for development.
It found that certain developers received preferential treatment in the process.
