Ontario’s top doctor is urging citizens to wear a mask once again, but only voluntarily.
Dr. Kieran Moore spoke earlier this morning as healthcare bed availability continues to plummet and pediatric hospitals are overwhelmed with an influx of sick patients.
He says a combo of COVID-19, the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) have left the healthcare system facing extraordinary pressures, but stopped short of calling for another mask mandate.
“What we are facing is a triple threat that requires our collective action. An action to protect the most vulnerable in our communities, the very young, the very old and those with underlying medical issues.” said Moore.
Dr. Moore added citizens can do their part by getting their flu shot ahead of influenza season, which is expected to peak in early-to-mid December.
“This is different from COVID. This is about protecting our children… I’m very concerned about our children and protecting them right now and it’s best we protect them through masking in the home environment and in any social situation as we go into a very social environment in the winter,” he said.
