Huron County OPP were very busy over the Thanksgiving long-weekend taking part in “Operation Impact”.

The national traffic safety campaign is among the most robust police enforcement & education initiatives to target drivers who are alcohol or drug impaired, agressive and inattentive or distracted.

Huron OPP saw a huge rise in the number of speeders charged during the campaign with 102 charged this year versus 55 last, an 86% increase.

In total 140 charges were laid during the campaign with two drivers charged with impaired operation, one of which was involved in a collision near Goderich.

Despite the high levels of visibility & enforcement by Huron OPP, a double fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Thanksgiving Day near Exeter.

This marks 8 fatal crashes with 10 deaths for the Huron OPP this year.
