OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs are cautioning riders of the increased risks which come with milder winter conditions.

Cold temperatures and a lack of snow across Ontario has set a dangerous stage for snowmobilers, especially if you ride on frozen waterways.

Police say 40 per cent of snowmobile fatalities have occurred on frozen lakes and rivers over the past 10 years.

The majority of OFSC trails are unavailable and riders are asked to stay off unless they are open.

Snowmobile Safety Week runs from Jan. 14-22.
