With warmer weather and summer around the corner, more riders are out across the area on ATV’s and OPP across the province are urging all riders to stay safe.
Ahead of ATV Safety Awareness Week OPP has reported a 125 per cent increase in ATV fatalities in 2024 with more than half of the deceased found without a helmet.
Nine people have died in OPP investigated ATV incidents this year, up from just 4 this time last year.
OPP add one third of this years deaths have involved alcohol or drugs.
OPP and the Ontario Federation of All Terrain Vehicle Clubs are urging all riders, regardless of experience to wear a properly fitted off road vehicle helmet and to stay sober and maintain control of their vehicle.
