South Bruce OPP are reminding residents golf carts are not permitted on roadways in Arran-Elderslie.

On June 29th police received a report of a golf cart being driven on Victoria Street Paisley and while golf carts might be low speed vehicles they do not meet safety standards for low speed vehicles under the Highway Traffic Act and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

There currently is a 10 year pilot project by the Ministry of Transportation to allow golf cars on the roadway but this only applies to Huron-Kinloss and the Township of Pelee Island.

Fines for those driving a golf cart on a road include operating without insurance, operating with no vehicle permit and operating a vehicle on a roadway with no drivers licence.
