All OPP West Region detachments are now equipped with Automatic License Plate Recognition and In Car Camera systems for their patrol cruisers.

Over 300 West Region patrol vehicles had the systems installed which was made possible with an investment from government in the OPP and municipal police services across Ontario.

Since the start of system installations in February, officers for all 13 West Region detachments have seen a high number of drivers flagged from the system who do not have valid, registered plates.

The new tech will also make it easier for police to enhance the ability to detect plates linked with criminal or traffic offenses.

These include wanted or missing people, stolen vehicles, suspended or prohibited drivers as well as vehicles associated with Amber Alerts.
