A Grey Bruce resident has died of a suspected overdose this week, renewing calls from the health unit to practice harm reduction when using drugs.

The individual was in their mid-30s and passed away in hospital on Dec. 6 after life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

Fentanyl is the suspected opioid responsible for the overdose, although toxicology results are still pending. The Grey Bruce Health Unit says the individual may have been mixing opioids and alcohol.

This is the fourth suspected fatal drug overdose reported to Grey Bruce Public Health since August.

The Health Unit reminds people to not use alone, and if they must, to call the Overdose Prevention Line at 1-888-688-6677.

They also remind the public that the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides protection from simple possession charges when 911 is called for an overdose.
