An Owen Sound Police officer is being recognized for helping save a fellow officer’s life.
Special Constable Jason Helm has cystic fibrosis and recently was showing signs of liver failure.
Once it was diagnosed, Cory Fernando, an Identifications Officer, volunteered to donate part of her liver after she was confirmed to be a match.
The transplant surgery will take place this Wednesday.
Fernando is being nominated for the Police Association of Ontario’s Police Services Hero of the Year Award for her efforts.
Nominations for the 2022 award are being accepted until March 14th.
