Saugeen Shores council voted in favour of changing the speed limit on Concession Rd 6 in the south end of Port Elgin at their meeting last night.

Staff recommended lowering the speed limit from 80 to 60 km/hr along the road, to address safety concerns around the new Lamont Sports Park, which is slated to open next year.

The road previously transitioned from an 80 to 40 zone km/hr about 500 metres east of Hwy 21. Now the transition to 60 will come about 1000 metres east of the Hwy 21.

Councillor Dave Myette commended staff on their measured approach to calming traffic in the area.
