Proposed development in Wingham causing rift with residents and Council

Residents and members of North Huron Council appear to be divided over a proposed residential development in Wingham.

The issue is around the height of the proposed structure which would be built on the former Wingham Trailer Park site.

Representatives for the developers recently appeared before Council at their meeting last Monday asking to permit a five-storey apartment building instead of the three-storey structure that was originally proposed.

Many residents have expressed concerns about how the development would impact their neighbourhood.

Council by a 3-2 vote defeated the request to change the height of the building (Reeve Bernie Bailey and Deputy Reeve Trevor Seip both declared a conflict of interest).

The developers are pledging to change the design in order to meet the satisfaction of the residents living nearby.
