The Saugeen Conversation Authority shared word that today is the Winter Solstice.

It marks the shortest day of the year when the North Pole is tilted farthest away from the sun.

The day has the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year.

Have no fear they say, after the shortest day, the days start getting longer and the nights shorter.

Although the solstice itself only lasts a moment or exactly 9:48 pm tonight it is also the term to refer to the day on which it occurs.
