Saugeen Shores council approved the location of the proposed Aquatic and Wellness Centre at yesterday’s meeting

The project’s prime consultant presented the town with two potential locations for the building on the municipal lot where the Plex is located. Council members all supported a recommendation from staff to go with the second option, so the centre will face Wellington St. instead of Tomlinson St.

Councillor John Divinski says the move made more sense for all stakeholders involved.

Council has directed staff to return on Dec. 12 with a more detailed design and project budget. The approved concept design came after the Town solicited residents’ input through a public meeting on Aug. 31, as well as through public submissions and extensive interactions online.

Construction for the Aquatic and Wellness Centre is projected to start in June 2023, with a public opening in Spring 2025.
