19 local women who enlisted in the military during the first two world wars were honoured in Saugeen Shores.

An interactive plaque was unveiled on Saturday outside the Plex in Port Elgin.

Chair of the Saugeen Shores Municipal Heritage Committee Bill Streeter there hasn’t been anything quite like this anywhere in Canada.

Close to 100 people were in attendance, mostly family members of those who served.

One of the 19, 98-year-old Vivian Wotten, did appear at the event and helped with the unveiling of the plaque.
