Saugeen Shores Council is set to receive a Staff Report on the possible expansion of access to dogs on area waterfronts.

It follows staff previously bringing survey results on the topic to the June 12th meeting.

It indicated support for the expansion.

Council gave staff a directive to narrow the scope of the recommendations.

Staff is now recommending that from July 1st to October 1st to test open access & time of day implementation for dogs’ access to the waterfront.

The open access would be on the beach area North of the flagpole in Southampton and the second, with time of day access, would be between 538 Izzard and Concession 6/Bruce 25 in Port Elgin.

They would be permitted before 9am and after 6pm.

Dogs would still be required to be always leashed, cleaned up after and under the control of their owners.

The change would be tested this summer with the impact gauged and feedback from by-law enforcement taken.
