OPP are urging residents to be safe after a text scam cost someone $3000.

Police say the victim got a text from someone claiming to be their daughter and in need of funds.

The victim then sent the funds but only after found out it was a scam.

OPP say to always be cautious of unexpected messages asking for money and to never do so unless you have verified their identity.

Police say the best way is to contact the family member and confirm before sending any money.
