Shaan Banday has been named as the first recipient of the Sharifur Rahman Memorial Scholarship.
The Community Foundation of Grey-Bruce established the scholarship in 2023 with a gift from an anonymous donour in memory of Sharifur Rahman who lost his life after an assault outside his restaurant.
Rahman was an active member of the community whose kindness touched many people.
The scholarship supports local students enrolled in full time studies with a strong preference to applicants who either themselves or their parents are newcomers to Canada as immigrants or refugees.
