As expected later today in council, South Bruce will review the binding results of the NWMO referendum.
While the meeting will allow for the only chance for a recount, that ultimately will be decided by council under the Municipal Elections Act.
The vote which closed on October 28th saw a narrow result of 51.2 per cent of voters being in favour of hosting a deep geological repository for nuclear waste near Teeswater with 48.8 per cent opposed with some who voted no calling for the recount.
The NWMO continues to talk with Indigenous groups while Saugeen Ojibway Nation says the results of South Bruce’s vote does not affect their ongoing evaluation.
