South Bruce Peninsula & Chippewas of Nawash issue Statements following Mayor’s Comments

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation issued coments following the release of recorded comments made by South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Garry Michi.

In the first letter the Town through Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland reminded residents that specific comments by individual members of council or staff do not reflect those of the municipality.

In reference to the Mayor’s comments the Town adds it support federal efforts to fund capital project that ensure all First Nations People across Canada have access to safe drinking water.

In a subsequent release the First Nation say they were disappointed and deeply offended by the Mayor’s comments and later called for his immediate resignation.
