The Municipality of South Bruce has completed an environmental assessment for expanding the capacity of the Teeswater wastewater system, finding increasing the current plant’s capacity is the best option.

The study, conducted by BM Ross and Associates, found that expanding the existing facilities represents a lower impact from a greenhouse gas perspective, as well as a more cost-effective method.

The study also outlines ways that construction crews can mitigate damage on the Teeswater River during the expansion, by installing boulders in the river bottom at the outlet channel for erosion control and putting in a temporary cofferdam as well as heavy-duty sediment fencing for the duration of the work.

Alternatives to expansion that were considered included limiting Community Growth to avoid exceeding sewage capacity, constructing a new treatment plant and reducing loadings at the current plant.

Interested persons may provide written comments to the project team until November 30.

Expansion is projected to begin in 2023.
