Huron County OPP have charged a suspect who stole a pickup truck and caused a fire south of Goderich early Saturday morning.
Just after 1 a.m., emergency services responded to a report of a single vehicle crash along Kitchigami Road west of Bluewater Highway. The truck had crashed into trees and started a fire, which spread due to high winds. The fire caused an evacuation of several residences in the area. One officer was also treated for smoke inhalation.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived but was located later that morning, around 8:30. They were charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
