Grey Bruce OPP are investigating a false call which saw a heavy police presence in Meaford.
On September 24th at around 5:46pm, police were given information from a crisis support service adivisng they were speaking to someone in a crisis.
During the call the worker belived they heard sounds similar to gunshots in the background. OPP responded to the home on Denmark Street between Edwin and Margaret.
Officers set up a containment area but through investigation it was found the report was unfounded and determined to be a “swatting” call.
“Swatting” calls are deliberately false reports intended to provoke a large-scale emergency response to a specific location by police and other first responders.
These incidents are treated seriously due to the risks they create for the public, emergency responders, and the individuals at the targeted location.
Investigation remains ongoing.
