General Motors has seen its Unifor member workers begin strike action as of midnight last night.
Unifor National President Lana Payne says the strike is about GM refusing to meet the pattern agreement.
Unifor says the company continues to fall short of their pension demands, income supports for retired workers and meaningful steps to transition temporary workers into permanent full-time jobs.
The strike includes nearly 4,300 workers at the Oshawa Assembly Complex and CCA Stamped Products, St. Catharines Powertrain and Woodstock Parts Distribution Centre.
The Union’s pattern agreement was established when the collective agreement was ratified with Ford of Canada.
Unifor is Canada’s largest union representing 315,000 workers in every major area of the economy.
