United Way Data Shows Struggle with Rising Cost of Utilities

United Way Bruce Grey has new data coming from their Utility Assistance Program showing how the rising costs of utilities is affecting families and seniors in the area.

Last year the program supported 302 households, helping 751 people to stay connected to heat and electricity which includes 236 children and 106 seniors.

The biggest of the concerns has seen how early people fall behind which requests in January rising 27 per cent and nearly doubling in February.

The program over the year delivered $183,973 in emergency utility grants to households with an average income of just $22,557.
