United Way Bruce Grey is pausing new intakes on the Utility Assistance Program until July 2nd given the increased demand and limited funding resources.
The program is aimed for those in Bruce and Grey experiencing emergency heating insecurity related to propane, furnace oil and cord wood.
The temporary pause is being implemented during the warmer months in order to avoid the possibility of service disruption during peak winter heating periods, when households are at greatest risk
Francesca Dobbym, Executive Director for United Way says this was not a decision the board made lightly.
This year has shown nearly 3 out of 4 households using the program are brand new.
