The nuclear industry is boasting the benefits of the region’s clean energy sector.

About 150 people were tuned in to a virtual forum on clean energy hosted by the Nuclear Innovation Institute Monday afternoon.

They say Bruce Power and its nuclear supply chain boosted Ontario’s GDP by more than $4 billion in 2020, the activity created by the nuclear industry bumped up household spending last year by $1.43 billion, and 95% of the wealth created from Bruce Power’s operations stays in Ontario.

They add the nuclear industry is a very significant economic multiplier in the province of Ontario.

Six new nuclear suppliers to the Bruce Power Major Component Replacement project were recognized at the event: Laurentis Energy Partners, Makwa-Cahill, Nucleom, Plan Group, PCL Construction, and Westinghouse.

Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson was among the dignitaries at the event and says the clean energy work happening across region continues to deliver investment, create jobs, and growth to communities across the region.

Also at the event were Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck (in photo), Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, and Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.
