Wiarton Willie will be back to his old looks this February, as the Town of South Bruce Peninsula has acquired a new albino groundhog to make the spring prediction for 2023.
The town lost the previous Willie late in 2021, so a brown and rather sheepish understudy had to make the call at this year’s COVID-restricted celebration.
According to a release from the town, that groundhog will take a back seat next year and remain an ever so spoiled understudy.
Mayor Janice Jackson says it’s a relief to have their albino buddy back in Wiarton again.
The next Groundhog Day ceremony will be held on the morning of Feb. 2, 2023
