A local girl in Wingham has been sending over 400 Christmas cards to military members in each of the last two years.

Marah says her mom gave her the idea of sending Christmas cards to service members last year.

She sent cards to military bases in Belleville, Halifax, and BC in the first year.

“I know what it’s like to not be home for the holidays and be around family. Just bring a little bit of home to them, and a smile to their face would be amazing.”

She expanded the cards to 10 different places this year including the Sudan, Iraq, Jerusalem, Japan, and the three sent to in Canada the year before.

Each card contains a Christmas and New Year Greeting, that they are from Wingham, three or four quotes she finds about Christmas or inspirational, and then she adds stickers all over the cards.

She covers the cost of creating the cards and the government covers the postage to send them to the various bases around the world.

The link to send cards yourself to service members is available below.
