WOAA Senior Hockey approves new Team in Thornbury ahead of New Season

The Team have launched a naming contest for the public with the choices Georgian Bay Applekings, Thornbury Merchants and Thornbury Steelheads. It closes at noon Monday.

The Western Ontario Athletic Association is preparing to welcome a new team to its Senior Mens Hockey League in time for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

The Thornbury Senior Hockey Club is expected to play out of the Beaver Valley Community Centre & Arena and will be closing a naming contest around noon to let the public have their say.

The choices are the Georgian Bay Applekings, Thornbury Merchants and Thornbury Steelheads.

The Thornbury community last had a team in the Intermediate B league back in the seventies.

The team will join area clubs including the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Ripley Wolves, Durham Thundercats and the Lucknow Lancers.
