Shovels hit the ground in Tiverton for the new Western Clean-Energy Sorting and Recycling facility.

A ground breaking ceremony took place on a lot across from the Bruce Energy Centre Thursday morning.

The facility will sort and recycle materials coming from the Ontario Power Generation nuclear operations inside the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station.

The project is a partnership between OPG, Laurentis Energy Partners, and Dancor Construction.

Laurentis Managing Director James Lauritsen says the materials that will be recycled at the facility are everyday items.

The new facility is expected to open by the end of 2022.
