Saugeen Shores Police say the fire at the Maplewood Motel in Port Elgin was deliberately set.
A 39-year-old of no-fixed-address was arrested and is facing charges of arson, mischief, and violating a probation order.
Investigators say two people, an employee at the motel as well as a firefighter, suffered injuries in Sunday’s blaze.
They say the motel received extensive damage and several occupants were displaced as a result.
Victims Services Bruce Grey Perth and the Red Cross assisted those who required shelter.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
