Improvements to the Southampton Landfill will begin soon, after Saugeen Shores awarded the contract for Phase One of the redevelopment project at their July 25 committee of the whole meeting.
Staff say the entrance is at capacity for the amount of traffic and waste coming in and needs to be expanded.
A new entrance to the west of the existing one will be created to alleviate traffic. The project will be done in two phases.
Phase One involves earth moving, retaining wall construction and a layer of asphalt. Doug Welsh Construction received the contract and the work is expected to be completed by November 15.
Phase two will be tendered later this winter.
The landfill will continue to operate its existing entrance until the new entrance becomes operational.
