Ahead of Labour Day, the Grey Bruce Labour Council put out a statement calling for unity, as area workers continue to struggle with an affordability crisis.

The council acknowledged that the last two years have been a struggle for many, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and say it’s a reminder that unions are a vehicle for lifting workers out of poverty.

Now, with cost of living increasing dramatically, the council is pushing for a pandemic recovery plan that replaces lost jobs with better ones.

“Those who claim our economy has bounced back are conveniently focusing only on a small cross-section of employment data,” reads the release. “If a recovery plan relies on leaving some workers behind, it is not much of a plan at all.”

This upcoming holiday, they call on union members to tell one friend about the benefits unionizing. They also invite those that are looking to learn more to their Labour Day celebration in Port Elgin.
