Maitland Conservation issues water safety statement

The Maitland Conservation Flood Centre has issued a water safety statement for all municipalities in the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds.

They join the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority in warning the area of the potential for flooding brought on by this weekend’s weather.

The combination of mild temperatures and light rain will result in a steady melt of the snowpack left from last week’s blizzard. Though they don’t expect significant flooding, minor flooding could occur in low-lying areas.

The conservation authority encourages municipalities to check drainage systems and monitor and flood-prone roads.

The statement will be updated if needed and will remain in effect until Wednesday.
