A local veterinary clinic in Kincardine is preparing to hold a canine blood donor clinic in support of the Canadian Animal Blood Bank .

Jen Romaniuk at Kincardine Veterinary Services speaks to where donated blood is in greatest need.

“I think a lot of the demand happens down in those Emergency Clinics closer to Guelph. A lot of the places we refer emergencies to, dire emergencies.”

Each unit of blood donated by a donor dog can make a difference in the life of 3 canine companies and their families.

The requirements for dogs to donate blood include that they must be 1 to 8 years of age, weigh over 55 pounds, up to date vaccinations, and have an even temperament.

For more information and a form that needs completed you can contact Kincardine Veterinary Services.

Dog owners do not need to be a client of KVS in order for their dog to donate.
