The estimate remaining life of the Amabel Landfill is around 6.5 years. It's difficult to estimate due to an increase in demand they've seen over the past couple years.

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula heard a year-end-monitoring report on its Landfills from Acting Director of Public Works Brianna Collins.

The Town only has its Amabel Landfill remaining in operation.

84% of waste depositing at the site is residential.

She speaks to the remaining lifespan of the site.

“The estimate at this point is 6.5 years. I think its a little on the high end of things. It may be a little less due to an increase we’ve seen in the past few years.  It’s tough to predict.”

The long-term-waste management plan prepared in 2019 including options such as a new landfill, a partnership with a neighbouring municipality and exportation of the waste.

The current landfill only supports increasing its size by 40,000 cubic meters.
