OPP officers kept busy over Civic Holiday Long Weekend with Safety Campaign

Local area OPP officers were kept busy over the recent Civic Holiday Long Week as they were patrolling both the roadways and waterways in the area.

The campaign which ran from August 4th to 7th focused on traffic moving over for emergency vehicles, as well as the “Big 4” offences of distracted, or impaired driving, speeding & aggressive driving and lack of wearing a seatbelt.

The OPP laid a total of 108 charges in Huron, 33 in South Bruce and 101 in Grey Bruce in the span of 4 days including in Huron 81 for speeding, 14 in South Bruce, and 63 in Grey Bruce.

Second was stunt driving and then charges under Cannabis control act. Huron OPP also issued 54 warnings to drivers during the campaign period.

The Move Over law carries a $490 to $2,000 fine and 3 demerit points on conviction.
