Town of South Bruce Peninsula officially declare Mayor’s Seat vacant

The options available under the Municipal Act include filling the vacancy by appointment, or adopting a by-law for the calling of a by-election.

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula declared their Mayor Seat vacant at its meeting held Tuesday.

The move comes after Previous Town Mayor Gary Michi tendered his resignation on August 29th.

Town Staff will now prepare a report outlining Council’s options for filling the vacancy.

The options available under the Municipal Act include filling the vacancy by appointment, or adopting a by-law for the calling of a by-election.

The deadline to fill the vacancy is 60 days from the declaration.

No timeline was provided at the meeting but Town CAO Bill Jones indicated that staff is working on making further information ready for the next Council meeting that is currently scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th at 9am.
