The Town of Saugeen Shores issued a statement in advance of the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation on Saturday.
In it they say the day is about honouring the children who went to residential schools and never came home.
It is about supporting those that survived and who grew up to live with the scars of that terrible time.
They add as Canadians we want to demonstrate our values to the world and set an example for others.
This is done they say by admitting we were wrong, and when we have done wrong.
All month the Town has provided residents with resources to learn more about the survivors of residential schools.
They have also flown the Every Child Matters flag on town flagpoles and will have it at half-mast Saturday.
