Bruce County called on the provincial government recently to take strategic action on issues like rural infrastructure funding, energy host community support, poverty reduction, rural transit, healthcare, housing affordability and more.

The call was through a Pre-Budget Consultation submission and is a result of the County saying the currently municipal model in Ontario failing to meet the needs of the communities.

Municipalities are responsible for nearly a half-trillion dollars in critical infrastructure and are forced to reply predominantly on property taxes and uses fees.

The County supports AMO’s call for a Social and Economic Prosperity Review.

This would see an update the provincial-municipal fiscal relationship, ensuring sustainability for both levels of government, fairness for taxpayers and equity for communities.
