The Lake Huron Coastal Centre is celebrating 20 years of the Coast Watchers Community Science Monitoring Program.

The Coast Watchers act as the eyes and ears of the Lake Huron coastline with volunteers collecting data along the shoreline, making it possible to track long term trends in shoreline conditions and contribute to both short term sustainability efforts and long term resiliency goals.

Coast Watchers collected data from May to October last year on a variety of topics such as wildlife, plastic pollution and storm damage.

Data collected showed Saugeen Beach was the busiest for beachgoers with July being the busiest time.

The most common wildlife spotted included gulls, Canadian geese, swans, gizzard shad fish, turkey vultures and buffleheads.
