The Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance now has Bone Mineral Density testing at the Wingham Hospital.
This new unit which officially became live on February 2nd marks brand new diagnostic imaging for the alliance and being a significant investment in preventive and diagnostic care for the community.
BMD testing is a key screening tool which is used to detect early signs of bone loss and identify patients at increased risk for fragility fractures.
As communities age and life expectancy increases, proactive care becomes increasingly important, mainly in reducing the risk of serious injuries like hip fractures which can lead to prolonged hospital stays, loss of mobility and lasting impacts on quality of life.
Esther Millar, President and CEO of the Hospital Alliance says with Bone Mineral Density testing now available, more people can access timely screening and diagnostic support close to home.
