Bruce County is continuing to look steps to go ahead with a regional transit partnership.
Following $9.5 million in funding being secured from the Ontario Transit Investment Fund, the county has been working with Grey, Dufferin and Wellington Counties and Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit to look into a regional transit system.
The multi-county project would help establish a seamless, equitable and efficient transit network connecting the counties while enhancing mobility for all residents.
Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau says there is still a ways to go but things such as public feedback will play a major role in.
“Obviously this is something people have identified for a long time that we need and we certainly agree. We got some money from upper levels of government to help us put together a study and hopefully that will lead to more money from those upper levels to help us support a transit system maybe as early as next year” said Charbonneau.
The $9.5 million in funding continues from the $50,000 previously received thorough the Rural Transit Solution Fund.
