Bruce County is becoming increasingly unaffordable as population growth continues and the housing supply can’t keep up, a recent study shows.
Conducted by KPMG, the county’s housing demographic study says that 45% of renters spend more than 30% of their income on housing, while nearly one in five spend over 50%.
The average dwelling value increased of 76% from 2016 to 2021. Over the same time, the population has gone up 8.3%, while the supply of dwellings has only increased 4%. Over four out five dwellings in the county are single-detached houses.
The population also skews towards retirees, with the average age nearly four years above the provincial average.
