Bruce County urging Eligible Renters to apply for Canada Housing Benefits Payment

Bruce County’s Housing Services division is encouraging eligible rents to apply for the Canada Housing Benefit’s one-time payment of $500 to help cover the cost of rent.

This one time top up to the Canadian Housing Benefit aims to help lower-income renters who are struggling with the cost of rent.

The deadline to apply is Friday, March 31st.

  • you have filed a 2021 tax return
  • you are at least 15 years of age on December 1, 2022
  • you have an adjusted family net income of $20,000 or less (individuals) or $35,000 or less (families)
  • you are a resident of Canada for tax purposes in 2022
  • your principal residence is located in Canada
  • you paid rent for your own principal residence in Canada in 2022
  • you paid at least 30% of your 2021 adjusted family net income on rent in 2022

You apply for the benefit through the CRA website, and for faster processing they advise to register for direct deposit into your bank account as well.
