A new isotope production system has been installed at Bruce Power.

In a news release, the groundbreaking technology marks the first time that a nuclear reactor has the capability to produce Lutetium-177.

The isotope production system is installed in Unit 7.

The project is a collaboration between Bruce Power and Isogen, which is a partnership between Kinetics and Framatome).

Lutetium-177 (or Lu-177) is used to treat various cancers, such as neuroendocrine tumours and prostate cancer.

Bruce Power says the new system will also have the ability to produce other isotopes for medical uses in the near future.
