May marks Sexual Assault Prevention Month in Ontario and the Canadian Mental Health Association of Grey Bruce is raising awareness on how devastating this violence is.
According to Statistics Canada, only 6 per cent of people who experienced sexual assault have reported it to police.
During this month, the men’s program is highlighting there are resources to support male survivors of sexual violence in Grey Bruce.
Jon Farmer, Men’s Program Supervisor says they still see myths that boys and men cannot be assaulted adding they deserve support and it is available.
The male survivor program provides free individual counseling to men 16 years and older who have experienced sexual violence with sessions available virtually or in person in Owen Sound and the surrounding area.
