Bruce County is taking action to respond to housing affordability as part of the county’s new Community Development Office.

The cost of housing has risen sharply over the last 10 years with the latest data from December showing the average price of a home in Bruce County was $685,126 with the average rent costing $2200 per month.

Bruce County Warden Chris Peabody says they see housing supply and affordability is not just a challenge locally and through the work of the Community Development Office they will advocate for Bruce County’s housing needs at a provincial and federal level.

Housing is considered affordable where the cost to get a home is no greater than 30 per cent of gross annual household income for low and medium income households.
