2022 ROMA Conference launched today Monday January 24 (CNW Group/Rural Ontario Municipal Association)

Promoting partnerships and advancement is the message the Counties of Bruce and Grey were delivering to delegates at this year’s ROMA Conference.

During the two-day conference this week, Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson and Grey County Warden Selwyn Hicks joined forces to encourage resourcing and support for the municipal implementation of Community Safety and Well-Being Plans.

The two counties also submitted a joint request for provincial support on advancing a comprehensive multi-pronged approach to solving the Child Care Worker labour shortage.

Jackson, Bruce County Interim CAO Christine MacDonald, and Director of Planning and Development Mark Paoli also brought forward the discussion on employment land conversions and settlement area expansions.

They say the process of creating the new County Official Plan has identified a tension between the goal of increasing the supply and mix of homes, the pressure to convert employment lands and/or expand settlements, and the twin goals of maintaining long range supply of designated employment lands and maintaining efficient settlement forms.
